Subject: Some questions concerning system support for the workshop
- - - -
1. Machine: The current assumption is that the SUMEX KI-10x
will be the main machine for the programs to run. It is expected that
programs running on other system will begin MIGRATING to SUMEX.
2. Backup support or Fallback computing is to be arranged. Prospecting
is to be done at ISI-KI-10x or at BBN or at IMSSS(?)
The RUTGERS PDP-10 will be available and will be accessible via the
ARPANET. It is not clear whether this machine will support TENEX
and whether it will be compatible with SUMEX to the extent that we
can count on it as being backup support.
3. Programs that cannot run on SUMEX will have to be made available
over the ARPANET to be accessed through the RUTGERS TIP.
4. It is implicitly assumed that SUMEX will afford high priority for
running of the demonstration programs in the interval shortly before
and during the demonstration days so that a dozen or so
jobs that guzzle core and time can be run with reasonable response
times. If such priority is unavailable someone ought bring it up
at one of the discussions.
